Hamed Malek-Khanbanan

Hamed Malek-Khanbanan began his journey in swimming at the age of five under the guidance of his father, a renowned swimming and water polo champion in Iran. His father played a pivotal role in shaping Hamed’s athletic path. Hamed trained with various Tehran-based swimming teams until the age of 10–12, gaining valuable experience in national swimming competitions.

Transition to

Water Polo

At the age of 12, Hamed decided to pursue water polo. Between the ages of 12 and 15, he underwent intensive training, showcasing remarkable talent in the sport. By the age of 16, he was invited to join Iran’s senior national water polo team and participated in his first international competition.

National Team Career

From 2010 to 2023, Hamed was a continuous member of Iran’s national water polo teams, both at the junior and senior levels. During this period, he became one of the core players of the national team and represented Iran in numerous Asian and international tournaments.

Captaincy of the National Team

From 2019 to 2023, Hamed served as the captain of Iran’s senior national team. Under his leadership, the team achieved significant accomplishments, including the Asian Championship runner-up title in 2023 and winning Iran’s first Asian Games medal in 44 years—a bronze medal at the 2018 Jakarta Asian Games.

Domestic Achievements

Hamed Malek-Khanbanan played for 13 years in Iran’s Premier Water Polo League, achieving outstanding records with various teams:
• 10 consecutive Premier League championships in Iran
• 3 silver medals in league competitions
These accomplishments make him one of the most decorated players in the history of Iranian club water polo.
